It has a structured, aluminum frame using patented belt-driven technology allowing for very large widths and projections.
The fabric at the top of the APRO retractable awning cover feeds through a series of "ribs" or windbreak support bars that hold the fabric in place. When the APRO retractable awning cover is fully extended, these supports keep the fabric taut. When the patio cover is closed, these ribs slowly and evenly bunch the fabric into folds, creating an elegant soft fold drapery that borders the space. The APRO retractable awning has guides or tracks that are strategically located at each of the pergola or trellis cross members.

For the APRO retractable awning, this design lies in the flatness and strength of its frame. Unlike many retractable cover systems, the APRO retractable awning does not require, but can have an angle/pitch to the pergola to provide front rain runoff or the existing or new pergola can be perfectly flat, while optional hidden, integrated guttering provides all the necessary control for precipitation. Its optional patented drain system prevents evaporation within the frame, which helps preserve the integrity of the frame. It has been tested and certified for downpours.
